Modifying Platforms

For Legion 2023 and subsequent updates, the location and shape of a Platform can be changed without needing to first delete then re-create that Platform; this ability introduces some new terms associated with LEGION Platforms:

  • Bound and Unbound CAD
    • When Platform edge CAD is selected to generate a Platform, that CAD is ‘bound’ to the Platform. It becomes locked: it cannot be modified or deleted while bound to a Platform.
    • CAD not used for Platform edges is ‘unbound’. It can be modified or deleted as usual.
Note: When a Platform is deleted its edge CAD is automatically unbound.
  • Unbinding and Rebinding
    • Platform ‘unbinding’ occurs when the association between a Platform and its edge CAD is lost. This can occur when CAD Layers are deleted, or during CAD import if existing Layers are overwritten.
    • An unbound Platform cannot be simulated and will generate QA errors. To fix them, you need to ‘rebind’ affected Platforms by selecting new edge CAD. Rebinding can be used to change a Platform’s shape and/or position. For instance, to shorten or lengthen a Platform.
Tip: Unbound Platforms are drawn in red. Bound platforms are drawn in dark blue.

Unbinding a Platform allows means the associated edge CAD can be modified or deleted. Rebinding a Platform allows that Platform to move or alter its shape.

  1. To unbind a Platform, right-click inside it in the CAD workspace and select the “Unbind Platform Edge CAD for Platform ‘Name’” option from the popup menu.
    • The Platform becomes red, indicating it is unbound.
Note: There is no “Unbind…” right-click option if a Platform is already unbound.
  2. To rebind a Platform, right-click inside it in the CAD workspace and select the “Rebind Platform Edge CAD for Platform ‘Name’” option from the popup menu:
    1. Choose the new edge CAD for the Platform, just like creating a Platform.
    2. Simplify the edge as needed, just like creating a Platform.
    3. Indicate which side of the edge the Platform should occupy, by moving the mouse left or right of the edge CAD. A preview outline of the Platform is drawn as you move the mouse.
      • When the mouse is to the left of the edge:
      • When the mouse is to the right of the edge:
      • When the side is correct, left click to finish rebinding the Platform.
    4. If the Platform was reversed before rebinding, LEGION Model Builder will try to reverse it again, so the direction remains the same. Platform direction depends on how the edge CAD was drawn, so it’s advisable to verify the Platform’s direction is still correct:
    5. If there are any Platform Entry Zones for the rebound Platform, their position will need to be checked and manually updated if necessary. A prompt will appear:
      • If ‘Yes’ is selected, the Platform is selected in the CAD workspace, ready for editing its Platform Entry Zones:
